Engineered Membrane-Based Reverse Osmosis System

Pretreated water is pressurized and passed through semi-permeable RO membranes. Dissolved salts, TDS, hardness, silica, and other contaminants are separated into the reject stream, while low-TDS permeate is collected for industrial process, utility, boiler feed, and production use.

The RO plant can be supplied as single pass, double pass, brackish water RO, high recovery RO, or fully automatic PLC-based skid depending on inlet water quality, required permeate TDS, flow rate, recovery target, and operating conditions.

Overview

What Is a Reverse Osmosis Plant?

A Reverse Osmosis Plant is a membrane-based water treatment system used to remove TDS, dissolved salts, hardness, silica, heavy metals and process contaminants from raw water. It delivers low-conductivity treated water for industrial utilities, boiler feed, process water, pharma, food and beverage applications.

For complete water treatment, the RO plant can work after filtration and chemical conditioning and before DM, EDI, UV or UF polishing systems. This combination improves membrane life, permeate quality, plant recovery and long-term industrial water reliability.

Working Process

How a Reverse Osmosis Plant Works

RO process includes pretreatment, micron filtration and high-pressure membrane separation.
Ensures consistent TDS reduction, stable performance and high-quality treated water output.

1

Feed Pretreatment

Raw water passes through filtration and chemical conditioning to remove suspended solids, chlorine, turbidity, iron, hardness scale potential, and membrane-fouling impurities.

2

High Pressure Pumping

Conditioned water is pressurized by a high-pressure pump to overcome osmotic pressure and drive water through RO membrane elements.

3

Membrane Separation

Semi-permeable membranes allow purified water molecules to pass while rejecting dissolved salts, TDS, silica, organics, and concentrated impurities.

4

Permeate & Reject Handling

Low-TDS permeate is sent to storage or downstream polishing, while reject water carrying concentrated salts is discharged, recycled, or managed as per site design.

Applications & Selection

How This Reverse Osmosis Plant Improves Water Quality and Process Reliability

Industrial Reverse Osmosis Plant delivers low TDS water for boilers, process lines and utility applications.
Improves water quality, membrane efficiency and reliable long-term plant performance.

Typical Reverse Osmosis Plant Applications

High TDS water can cause scaling, corrosion, poor product quality, excessive blowdown, membrane fouling in downstream systems, and inconsistent utility performance. A correctly selected RO plant reduces dissolved solids at the source and helps maintain stable industrial water quality.

  • • Boiler feed water TDS reduction before feed tank, deaerator, or polishing system
  • • Process water treatment for manufacturing, textile, pharma, and food industries
  • • High TDS borewell, surface water, or treated effluent polishing for reuse
  • • Installed after filtration and before DM Plant, EDI, boiler, or critical process systems

What We Review Before Recommending an RO System

To recommend the correct reverse osmosis plant, WTE reviews site water data and operating needs so the pretreatment, membrane array, high-pressure pump, dosing system, recovery rate, instrumentation, and control philosophy match the actual application.

  • • Peak flow rate, average flow rate, and daily permeate demand
  • • Raw water TDS, hardness, silica, iron, turbidity, chlorine, SDI, and pH
  • • Membrane type, array design, flux rate, recovery target, and reject management
  • • Manual, semi-automatic, PLC-based, conductivity-controlled, or remote monitoring requirement
FAQ

Reverse Osmosis Plant FAQs

Find clear answers about Reverse Osmosis Plant design, RO membrane filtration, TDS reduction, pretreatment, recovery, applications and maintenance. These FAQs help you choose the right industrial RO plant for your water quality and process requirements.

What is a reverse osmosis plant?

A reverse osmosis plant is a membrane-based water treatment system that removes dissolved salts, TDS, hardness, silica, organic impurities, and microorganisms by forcing pressurized water through semi-permeable RO membranes.

Where is an industrial RO plant used?

Industrial RO plants are used for boiler feed water, process water, pharmaceutical utilities, food and beverage production, textile processing, cooling tower make-up, high TDS reduction, desalination, and water reuse polishing.

How does a reverse osmosis plant work?

Raw water is pretreated and pressurized by a high-pressure pump. It then passes through RO membranes where purified permeate is separated from concentrated reject water containing dissolved salts and impurities.

Can the RO plant be customized?

Yes. WTE customizes RO plants according to raw water TDS, flow rate, recovery target, membrane configuration, pretreatment requirement, automation level, available space, and treated water quality.

Why is pretreatment important before RO membranes?

Pretreatment removes suspended solids, chlorine, hardness, iron, turbidity, and scaling contaminants that can foul or damage RO membranes, helping improve membrane life and system reliability.

Do you provide automatic industrial RO systems?

Yes. WTE provides manual, semi-automatic, and PLC-based automatic RO plants with suitable pretreatment, dosing systems, high-pressure pump, membranes, instruments, control panel, and safety interlocks.
